Kebumen Coffee Is Coastal Coffee Open The World Market

In recent years coffee has become one of the main commodities in Kebumen. The coffee lovers in Kebumen began to appear by forming a community called "Kebumen Mengopi".

Coffee lovers are increasingly spoiled by the proliferation of cafes that offer their own uniqueness. The cafe as one of the coffee places today not only offers cheap prices but how consumers enjoy the classy menu with a comfortable place. Presenting quality coffee and with the best processing, so that the resulting flavor becomes more leverage.

With the concept of creative coffee is fairly new, served for coffee lovers such as coffee which also provide information about coffee, such as single origin with various methods such as aeropress brewing, v60, chemex, syphon, vietnam drip and cold drip.

We previously discussed coffee mostly from highland areas such as Colo Coffee, Ternadi Coffee, Tempur Coffee, Sinatah Coffee, Plukaran Coffee, this time we discuss Kebumen Coffee.

Coffee plants are generally grown in the highlands. However, there are different from typical Kebumen coffee products on this one.

Kebumen which is a coastal area can be a coffee producing area. If you do not see it yourself, it's hard to believe that coffee plants can thrive in the coastal areas. Kebumen coffee is grown in a lowland area that has a height of about 10 to 15 MDPL.

So far in usually, coffee plants live at a height of at least 400 masl with a cool temperature. In fact, coffee can also flourish on the southern coast of Kebumen which is a lowland and hot temperature.

The growth of coffee on the coast is like a miracle. It usually grows in an area with an altitude of 700-1,700 meters above sea level with a temperature of 16-20 C. This coffee is grown on lands of the people as well  under state forest stands with a partnership system.

Coffee is a story of past plantations in Kebumen that try to raise up the beautiful story again. Cultivating coffee can be an effort to advance the economy of Kebumen society. Moreover, coffee is currently one of the most interesting commodities in the world.

About Kebumen coffee, according to history Kebumen area used to be the center of coffee. Even records in Dutch also mentioned that coffee is one of the mainstay commodities Kebumen in the colonial period.

It is not mentioned what kind of coffee grows in Kebumen. Cultivated coffee is probably robusta coffee. Some can also be a kind of coffee nyamplung, the typical coffee Kebumen with fruit that is not too dense. It could be nyamplung coffee arise because of the type of arabica coffee that does not match the coastal conditions of Kebumen, then 'adapt' into coffee nyamplung.

Unfortunately, Kebumen coffee commodities since 30 years ago no longer exist in the national market and Indonesian coffee exports.

This is in line with the faded tradition of planting coffee from farmers. Even the coffee plant is completely exhausted after many trees are felled.

Coffee in Kebumen then disappeared since 1987 which was replaced by a clove at that time was loved by farmers Kebumen.

Kebumen coffee is also commonly known as packaging branded coffee "Djempol". Coffee "Djempol" that existed since 1969 has become a coffee icon in southern Central Java. Prior to the arrival of large-scale national brand packaging coffee in this one decade, coffee "Djempol" became a mandatory serving in the morning with kretek, linthing and tempe mendoan.

The people of Kebumen area make "Djempol" coffee as something that must be there in their daily needs. The factory and sales center of  "Djempol" coffee is located north of Tumenggungan Market, Kebumen.

Even, coffee "Djempol" type robusta with the concoction of 'secret' vanilla, corn, and clove also creates a unique way to enjoy coffee from Kebumen, which are called "nguntut kopi".

Coffee is mixed with sugar that is more composition, then little by little  eaten without brewed with water. Yes, as like eating candy. Now, no longer found "nguntut kopi"  that children usually do, so the 'tradition nguntut' may have disappeared.

Some coffee farmers, coffee business actors and Kebumen regency government are trying to revive the sweetness of the coffee story in Kebumen. Kebumen Coffee has a bright future. Kebumen Coffee has a distinctive taste and unique. Processed products of coffee powder roasted and oven are supplied in some cafes in Yogyakarta and Jakarta. Even the demand from foreign consumers.

Market demand for Kebumen coffee is so great has not been fulfilled because  Kebumen's supply of coffee is very limited.

Since the emergence of coffee gardens in Kebumen that produce Kebumen coffee beans, local governments make coffee as a commodity of non-timber forest products that are worthy of exports.

The Kebumen Regency Government has since 2014 conducted a massive coffee plantation in the forests owned by the people and in state forests in cooperation with Forest Village Society and Perum Perhutani Institutions.

There are five types of coffee plants grown in the area of Kebumen include Robusta coffee, Liberika, Arabica, Excelta, and Java. The most suitable type of Liberika coffee to be grown in Kebumen.

Arabica, robusta and liberica coffee plants can grow fertile and learn to bear fruit.

The distinctiveness of coast Kebumen coffee there is a difference of coffee taste to each other. The flavor of coffee grown in the coastal area also has a unique taste compared to coffee from the highlands. Coffee on a plateau or mountain tends to have a fragrance and taste like chocolate.

In addition to the surrounding soil and vegetation conditions, fertilizer selection also influences the taste of coffee. In caring for Kebumen coffee farmers use organic fertilizer from cow dung or goat. So the taste of coffee is sweeter, soupy and very good.

Liberica if planted in altitude tends to taste like vegetables. Suppose there are clove plants and coffee it must smell the cloves as well. If planted on the coast such as Kebumen coffee type of liberica there is the smell of the soil and the smell of jackfruit. Liberika coffee also has a lighter caffeine than robusta. Almost similar to arabica, but fragrant and sour different.

Typical coffee taste Coast kebumen also appears on robusta coffee. If planted in the highlands, robusta coffee tastes like chocolate flavor. But if Kebumen Coffee is a coastal robusta type, the flavor and aroma of coffee is even stronger. Robusta Kebumen coffee tastes delicious with a typical coffee fragrant. If not used to drinking, his head like use a 40 kilogram helmet. So heavy. If you are upset, the effect is like an addict.

Kebumen robusta coffee can be a mainstay. Although only presented in an regular tubruk, the result is worthy of Robusta Kebumen can be counted on as a coffee worth trying. Strong body, typical aroma of coffee, and a little bitter taste with after a little sweet taste.

As robusta type, Robusta Kebumen coffee can quite be a loyal friend because of its strong kaffein content. At a glance, Robusta Kebumen coffee is no different profile with Robusta coffee Lampung that has been worldwide

Kebumen coffee purchased directly from coffee farmers still seems some weaknesses, including the absence of the process of sorting the size of coffee beans, the way coffee beans roasted are not perfect, and the aroma of the soil is strong enough because the drying process is less precise.

Training and assistance is done so that coffee farmers and coffee business actors in Kebumen can produce Kebumen coffee which has great potential to be accepted by the market.

Kebumen coffee, arabica, robusta, liberika, and java are now widely known by the wider community by selling at various tourism objects in Kebumen such as Suwuk Beach, Petanahan Beach, Van der Wijck Fort, Jatijajar Cave, etc. In fact, in Roemah Martha Tilaar in Gombong and Martha Tilaar outlets throughout Indonesia.
